Around the church in St. Martin, there is an impressive open-air planting of biblical plants. Peter Straub, a winemaker and passionate botanist, has long cherished the dream of a Bible garden for his home community. Finally, in 1999, the necessary redesign of the green spaces around the parish church provided the opportunity to bring his idea to life.
Thus, plants mentioned in the Bible now thrive in the plantings, such as acanthus, pomegranate, tamarisk, olive tree, and an Atlantic terebinth. Even a small carob tree grows here, named after John the Baptist. Naturally, a vine is also included in the area: "I am the vine, you are the branches..." In the center of the main garden - between the church and parish center - there are plants that, although not mentioned in the Bible, are part of the wild flora of the Holy Land. Also included in the garden are plants, such as the milk thistle, which are more associated with Christian symbolism and mythology.
