The Bornheim Krippendorf

From 30 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, over 100 lovingly decorated nativity scenes in Bornheim invite visitors young and old to marvel. There are free guided tours every Wednesday and Sunday at 5.00 pm. Guests are welcomed at the historic guardhouse in Hauptstraße 47 (next to the Saubrunnen fountain).

Bornheim became a nativity scene village in 2003. Bornheim citizen Ulla Kaub approached the then mayor Dieter Hörner with the idea of creating a large nativity scene for the village with four or five accompanying nativity scenes. This would make it possible to soak up the Christmas spirit on a short Advent stroll through Bornheim. Instead of the desired four or five participants, 16 families created their own courtyard and street nativity scenes in the first year. And so Bornheim developed from year to year into a veritable "cot village" with over 100 cots today - from historical to modern, oriental, alpine, in a wide variety of materials and styles. Especially after dusk, when the nativity scenes and the Christmas lights shine in bright light, Bornheim becomes an atmospheric place, a place that radiates inner peace and conveys a sense of expectation, as is traditionally associated with Advent. The nativity scenes are freely accessible and can be viewed around the clock.
