The stand of contemporary art bears the name of modern sculpture founder - J. Koniarek. The gallery uses the synagogue Status Quo and rooms of Koppla´s Manor House, a historically valuable building that was built and later, in 1910, reconstructed for the family of a business man Koppla from Trnava.

Originally District Gallery was founded in 1976 as a cultural and educational facility. In that time it didn't have its own exhibition rooms so they were organizing exhibitions in various cultural facilities in the whole district. Later, after a partial reconstruction of Koppla´s Manor House for exhibition and administration needs, the first exhibition was held in new rooms in May 1994. Nowadays, the gallery uses also the rooms of Synagogue Status Quo for its purpose.

The entrance into the Koppla´s Manor House itself is noteworthy. The entrance hall leads up through a monumental staircase with wooden facing. In 2002, the gallery added a new wing as a place of a permanent exposition by Ján Koniarek called "Sculptor Ján Koniarek" and "Home Jewels". The gallery owns up to 76 pieces by this artist.

The collection fund of the gallery can be divided into four parts: ecclesiastical works and production of the 18th and 19th centuries and Trnava motives, art works mainly from the interwar period, works from the socialist period and works by Slovak artists after 1960.

Trnava and Jews were closely connected to each other in the Middle Ages. The town belonged to important centres of Jewish life until the Jewish were driven out of town in 1539. The reason was accusation their rabbi Tirnan of murdering. But later, they came back to Trnava and in the 19th century, there were nearly 3 000 Jewish believers.

Synagogue Status Quo became a remarkable, architectonically more complicated building with characteristic brickwork which is not roughcasted. This building remembers the vanished minority also thanks to a plenty of great exhibitions and cultural events under the baton of the Ján Koniarek Gallery.
